Perhaps it is the open landscape of North Holland, with its wide vistas and panoramas of dunes and sea that accounts for the open-minded approach of the Hebbeding design studio in Schagen. There are no straight lines or fixed patterns at Hebbeding. “Just as people can be different, in our team we are totally different too,” says designer Heleen Raap. “It is precisely the variation in styles and ideas that explains the success of Hebbeding.
Fashion at Hebbeding
Hebbeding has a unique design concept for women that want to be noticed. “In our design studio we follow our own course, independent and free of the prescribed trends in Paris and Milan,” says designer Margit Pronk. With its pronounced style, Hebbeding emphasises the unique character inherent in every woman.
Black and white is the basic colour combination, with variations of earth tones, stripes, checks, and occasionally, surprisingly strong colours. Every season brings the unexpected; originality is our strength.
This fresh approach is reflected in the increasing demand for Hebbeding fashion. Throughout the world, women choose our brand because it reflects their own taste. Hebbeding is currently sold in hundreds of shops in twenty countries throughout Europe, Australasia, the Middle East and the United States.
European differences
“Could it be a little larger?” was the request we had from Germany. “A little smaller please,” they said in France. “Do you have a collection for the taller person?” enquired the Swedes. Hebbeding stands for choice. After the success of our brand in various countries it was evident that the women in Europe have very different builds; they share similar taste but they come in all shapes and sizes.
In response to these differences we work with three different sizes from sizes 40 to 52. Within each size, we have both long and short variations; so many women, so many sizes!
All Ages
The design team at Hebbeding is comprised of women of all generations. This is a deliberate choice. Innovative ideas come from every generation. The designers stimulate and trigger each others’ creativity. The sum of all of the ideas leads to the creation of designs that appeal to women of all ages.
Marjan Spaansen, the founder of Hebbeding, began her own fashion line twenty years ago because she could not find clothes in which she felt really at home. “I am size 50 and 1.75 tall. This is not unusual because there are so many women with my posture. However, the clothing industry only targeted the smaller sizes. If you wanted something a little looser you had to make do with a very limited choice. The choice on offer was definitely not my taste. I had a very clear picture of the type of fashion I sought. The first Hebbeding collection was the result of this vision.
Loyal Customers
There was considerable interest in these typical North Holland designs at fashion fairs and shows at home and abroad. Demand increased so that Hebbeding grew at a steady pace. Each new collection meant, yet again, a larger clientele.
“This growth made it possible to recruit new people into the team, which itself led to more new ideas,” recalled Marjan. Enthusiastic reactions from Hebbeding fans formed a source of inspiration. Becoming acquainted with Hebbeding was experienced as a kind of homecoming. It can be compared with going to a concert or listening to a favourite band. Suddenly you are amongst like-minded people who have been searching for a certain style and who have found what they sought.
